Manually install printers

For Windows users only

Automatic stapling (and sometimes double-sided printing) was found to be unavailable when installing the printers from the PaperCut Print Deploy Tool client. If you encounter these issues, manually install the printers by following the steps below:

Download the print driver from Ricoh or HP. Print drivers are found under "General print guide" found here (e.g. Ricoh Aficio SP C830DN for slick-brcfirstfloorcolour).

  • For Ricoh:
    • In “Search for equipment downloads” enter the printer model (e.g. IM C####)
    • Select “Drivers IM C####”
    • Click “I Agree” to Software License Agreement
    • Choose the correct Operating System (Windows 11)
    • Click “Download” for PCL 6 Driver and extract from your Downloads folder

Search Control Panel in the Windows Search bar, in Programs & Features select Turn Windows features on or off (on the left panel).
Scroll down to Print and Document Services and check LPR Port Monitor, press OK and close the window.

Add-printer.png

Select "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings".
Select Create a new port and Type of port: LPR Port.

Lpr.png

Copy and paste bota-sprnp1.ead.ubc.ca (print.botany.ubc.ca to install bioloffice and biosci3 copiers only) to the name of server providing lpd.
Enter the name of the printer that you want to install.
If there's an error: Port already exists, select Use an existing port and select the name bota-sprnp1.ead.ubc.ca:printername and continue to the next step.

Printer-address.png

Select the name of the driver manufacturer and the printer model.
If you don't see the exact printer model then select Have Disk... click Browse.
Go to C:\temp\ and driver folder (e.g. z90699L15 for Ricoh as an example) and click Open.
The driver should be listed if you've done Step 3; downloaded and extracted the driver application.

Choose "Replace the current driver".

Printername.png

Type in the printer name.
Choose "Do not share this printer".
Restart your computer.

Print Preferences

Once the copier is installed, you can add the staple function for that copier.

  • Open Windows Settings > Printers & scanners
  • Select the installed copier to configure > Manage > Printer Properties > Device Settings tab
  • Enable duplex printing
  • Enable colour printing (available on all Ricoh printers and rainbow-bioscithirdfloor)
  • Enable automatic stapling (available on all Ricoh printers):
    • In Printer Properties > Accessories tab > select Finisher SR3270 (or Finisher SR3320 for only bioloffice and biosci3)
    • In Printing Preferences, enable stapler and collate before printing
