My group is highly diverse and interactive. We value collaboration and cooperation in a fun, impactful environment. We have a new lab space in the UBC Life Sciences Centre, with lab support for state-of-the-art microbiological and genomics research. Moreover, we are apart of Zoology,Microbiology & Immunology, and the Biodiversity Research Centre. Together, this is a world-leading community of evolutionary biologists, ecologists, geneticists, and infectious disease researchers.
UBC is located in Vancouver, a beautiful and multicultural city. There are lots of opportunities to participate in outdoor activities and just hang out at the beach.
Prospective PhD students
PhD students can join through the UBC Departments of Zoology or Microbiology & Immunology . There are often funding opportunities, particularly NSERC graduate fellowships. Best to send Kayla an email well in advance of admission deadlines.
Prospective Post-doctoral Fellows
If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch early to discuss ideas and sources of funding. There are often several opportunities to apply for funding, some depending on the topic or nationality of applicant (e.g., NSERC, US National Science Foundation, 1851 Royal Commission, Marie Curie Actions).
I am actively looking for post-docs interested in studying the evolution and ecology of virulence. Please get in touch if interested!
