To ensure more equitable access to available seats, identify prospective students, and to make course planning easier, we are asking students to apply for admission to both second and third year Biology Programs.

Due to curricular differences among institutions some transfer students may not have the necessary requirement to apply for admission. If you appear to be missing a requirement please contact the Biology Office as soon as you have been admitted into the Faculty of Science.

Students interested in the Biology CO-OP Program should visit the co-op website at www.sciencecoop.ubc.ca.

An application form for admission into the 2nd year Biology Program will be available online at the Faculty of Science website at www.escience.ubc.ca in June and the deadline will be toward the end of June.

3rd year Admission:

Summer Admission
The Biology Program will have two admission periods during the summer session. May admission is open to students who have all their requirements. Early August admission is open to transfer students, late applications, and students who have completed their entry requirements during the summer. We will not consider applications from students who are eligible for promotion to 4th year. See the Academic Calendar under the Faculty of Science, Academic Regulations for information about Promotion Requirements. If you have further questions regarding Promotion Requirements please contact Science Advising.

Requirements for admission to the 3rd year Biology Programs include the successful completion of second year program requirements with a sessional average of 65% or higher (the exception is Cell Biology and Genetics for which you need a sessional average of 70% or higher).

Students who satisfy all entry requirements for the Third Year Biology Program except CHEM 205 are still encouraged to apply. These students will be considered for admission after students with complete requirements have been adjudicated.

One of the Organismal biology program requirements can be deferred until third year, however, students intending to take BIOL 363 and 364 must take BIOL 204 in their second year, because it is a prerequisite for these courses.

Students intending to apply to a Combined Majors or Honours program must consult the UBC Calendar for their second year program requirements.
