Dr. Teh will explore how biodiversity, including iconic species like Singapore’s national flower (Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim), can be translated into new insights for human health and therapeutics. We will learn about BD-MED, a joint initiative by Singapore Health Service and Duke-NUS Medical School, which aims to drive and accelerate biodiversity research that can promote all aspects of human health and wellness, and its three signature programmes: 1) Herbal Biodiversity and Medicine, 2) Food Biodiversity and Nutrition and 3) Urban Biodiversity and Wellness. Empowered by our rich local-regional biodiversity and through cutting-edge research, how can BD-MED’s approach be adopted at UBC/in Canada?
